A day for eggs

Back at home, I finally got up the nerve to get out that tie dye easter egg kit I got last year and color some eggs. It was super rewarding, as I already used one in my lunch and will continue to use them tomorrow and the next day to eat. Super prettyness. Or not, but it was fun while it lasted.

Tropics

The only unfun thing in the tropics, besides dehydration,is bug bites. Never before have my feet been under such attack. Over twenty bites cover one foot. Itch.

Ceviche

Found some great Ceviche in Puerto morales. We arrived to  our guesthouse a day early, right before sunset (luckily Google maps was very correct on the location) and were happy to find our room was ready already! Great advice, adorable guard/lap Chihuahua dog, and very nice accommodations at Casitas kinsol.

Caye caulker

Journeyed out to caye caulker today to try to find some swimmable beach area. Man, we walked about ninety minutes south along the water and mangroves before we hit a dead end. We later heard from other travellers that ten minutes north and we would be near a nice split in the island with a beach. So we stayed all day on this small island, got the cheapest food so far at a popular locals place , consumed two or more liters of fresh juices (sold for usd 2.50), climbed around a mangrove tree popular with some local kids, and passed some good time with these kids watching their sea animal stash (so the little brother wouldn't dump it out or eat it). We learned from these kids that fish, shrimp, and stone crabs live inside conch shells. Tony just thought the conch shells around the tree were real dirty. We were both surprised at the spoils inside when one kid knocked it on the pier we sat, spilling out mud and crabs galore. We missed out on the device tonight, but pupusas and hot dogs in the square were almost as good. Tomorrow we go back to Mexico! Hast pronto. Graces, Belize, por tu internet. Oh yea, English and creole are dominant here, barely any Spanish.

Breakfast on the beach

Before our awesome snorkeling trip, we took a unique breakfast on the beach. Tony had watermelon juice, eggs, sausage, grit and fry jacks (fried hotcakes). Anna had Orange juice, eggs, Bacon, potato and tortillas. And then we went on an okay snorkeling tour and saw turtles, rays, fish, and sharks very up close. I only wish we had more time in the water with the awesome turtles.

Only obstacle

The only obstacle along our route to Belize was that I was certain there were bed bugs in our chosen hotel. The sheets held the tell-tales signs of old blood spots. Tony took his chances but I made a makeshift bed for the nine hours we slept.

Belize

We just made it to Belize! Time to figure out how to get in the water.30 degrees census.

Ramping up

As we're entering the last 55 hours before my next vacation, we're ramping up for adventure and fun. I've been researching places to go and experience new and unique things. for instance, in less than 100 hours I may be able to 'hug' a nurse shark...I'm not sure how I feel about that. I think it is something I wouldn't regret doing, rather, it would probably be something I'd regret not doing. It looks pretty darn scary to go swimming with such large fish. I'm especially scared of fish that are heavier or longer than me because I'm not sure I'd win in a battle. I wouldn't mind actually not hugging the shark, but maybe just petting and taking a photo of it by itself. I also read that in the same area: “You’ll also see fluorescent-colored fish, four-foot long black groupers, and delicate sea fans." I can't wait to try out my new underwater camera holder!

Dogs

On Sunny days these dogs are basking in the glory of human attention.
